| Our Current Programs: Spay/Neuter Voucher Program: Thanks to grant funding from the Greg Biffle Foundation, we have spay/neuter vouchers available to any local resident, regardless of income. With the cooperation of Dr. Scott Little, DVM and Dr. Mark Burke, DVM, voucher recipients pay a very low co-pay of $10 per cat or $20 per dog for spay or neuter surgery. This is available as long as grant funding lasts. Monthly Mobile Spay Station Visits to DeKalb County, TN: Freckles' Friends co-sponsors the HAWC Mobile Spay Station with the Humane Association of Wilson County. The spay station provides spay/neuter surgeries to pets in low-income families at the price of only what they can afford. You must be on one of the following programs to qualify: Food Stamps, WIC, Public Housing, Disability, SSI, Families First or Medicaid. Call 615-464-6104 or 615-444-1196 to schedule an appointment for your pets. There is no surcharge if your pet is in heat or pregnant. Also, kittens and puppies can be spayed or neutered as long as they weigh 2 pounds or more. This program is made possible by grant funding from the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, the Animal Welfare Fund and St. Francis Fund for Animals. For more information go to www.cfmt.org or www.GivingMatters.com. TNR (Trap, Neuter and Release) Program: Freckles' Friends has begun a new TNR program for feral cats with Dr. Mark Burke, DVM. Thanks to Dr. Burke, we no longer have to wait for a clinic day to trap feral cats and get them neutered. Now we can take them to Dr. Burke as we can trap them and he will perform the surgery. After their recovery, the cats are returned to their territory and released. This method has been proven effective in reducing the number of feral cats in many areas of the country. Thanks to the Petco Foundation for funding for this program! We also have volunteers that will transport cats to the Humane Association of Wilson County's Snip and Tip program one weekend each month. If you know of a feral cat colony that needs to be trapped, please call 615-464-6104. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to help trap these cats around the county. Call 615-464-6104 if you can help. Foster/Adoption Program - We have several pets available for adoption that need to be placed in good homes as soon as possible. Our adoption fee is only $65 which goes toward veterinary expenses incurred in our foster/adoption program. We desperately need volunteers willing to foster pets until homes can be found! See more information at How You Can Help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Freckles' Friends so that we can continue these programs as well as our fund-raising efforts towards a shelter. |
| Freckles' Friends Pet Shelter, Inc. is a 501c3 organization made up of volunteer animal lovers who are working to raise funds to build a quality pet shelter for our rural area of Middle Tennessee and to promote spay/neuter to reduce pet over-population. |
