Hi Everybody!

The spay station was full this morning! 30 dogs and cats were spayed or neutered thanks to this terrific program that helps low-income families. Thanks again to the Community Foundation for helping us get funding for it as it has helps sooooo many pets this year.

8/11 - Mamie called for help getting a female cat spayed.

8/11 - Kayla called for help getting a female Yorkie spayed.

8/13 - David called needing to find a home for his beagle. He loves him but Ben (the beagle) needs a fenced in yard.

8/14 - Tina called to donated some items and needs someone to pick them up.

8/14 - Charlotte called for a spay station appointment for her female dog and a male cat.

8/15 - Brenda called for a spay station appointment for a female dog.

8/15 - Jennifer called for a spay station appointment for a male dog.

8/18 - Stephanie called to cancel a spay/neuter voucher and get one for someone else.

8/18 - Heather called for a spay station appointment for a male Beagle.

WOW! I sure hope we get grant funding again for next year. We can definitely keep it full every month. With the local economy as it is, more and more are going to need this service. Kim has applied for the funding so cross your paws!!!

Good morning!

I've been getting a LOT of extra attention since I got back home. It's so nice to be one of the family and loved. Saturday will be National Homeless Animal Day. I hope some of you will celebrate it by adopting a homeless dog or cat into your family.

8/5 - Jenny called for help getting her male dog neutered.

8/5 - Sue called for spay station appointments for 2 male cats.

8/6 - Shirley called for spay station appointments for 2 cats, one is male and one is female.

8/6 - Jimmy called again for a spay station appointment for his dog. The scheduler should be calling him soon but we have a waiting list for female dogs and she may have to wait until September.

8/7 - Doris called for a spay station appointment for a male dog.

8/7 - Nick called from the UT Veterinary College just wanting to update their records with our mailing address.

8/7 - Kendra called with questions about a possible puppy mill that she discovered in Wilson County. She and Kim talked for a long time. Kendra had already filled out a police report because she thinks they have her lost dog and really wants her back. Kim asked her to also call the Humane Association of Wilson County. Taking action against a puppy mill takes the cooperative efforts of the police and rescue groups who can shelter and care for the dogs that will be removed.

8/8 - Angel called for a spay station appointment for a chihuahua.

8/9 - Michelle called for help getting 14-15 Manx cats spayed and neutered!!! If only she had asked for help before mama cats had kittens. We'll help with our voucher program as much as we can but our funds are running very low.

8/10 - Jenny called for a spay station appointment for her male dog. She had already called for appointments for her 2 cats.

WHEW! That's a lot of calls and a LOT of pets needing to be neutered. Maybe with all these pets getting 'fixed', next year will see fewer unwanted pets!

Don't forget about National Homeless Animal Day on the 16th and have a great week,

Hi Everybody,

The cat in the picture is Stitch and he needs a new home real bad. He is a Manxj (stub tail) and has beautiful markings. Call 615-464-6104 if you are interested in a new family member and can give Stitch a home. You can also download our adoption application from the 'Pets' page and email it to freckles.friends@yahoo.com.

7/22 - Mrs. Koons called needing help with a huge vet bill. Unfortunately, we do not have a fund for these type of calls. The local Humane Society is usually the best organization to call. There is also the Brown Dog Foundation in Nashville that can sometimes help.

7/22 - Bob called for a spay station appointment for a male dog.

7/22 - Delores called for a spay station appointment for 2 dogs: 1 male and 1 female.

7/23 - Sue called for a spay station appointment for 1 male cat.

7/24 - Melanie called for a spay station appointment for 1 female cat.

7/24 - Debbie at Pamida called to let us know that they are closed and we need to pick up our donation cans. Kim picked them up and is very sad about their closing. Pamida has always been very supportive and we will miss them.

7/24 - Linda called needing to find homes for 2 cats. They will be added to our courtesy listings.

Whew! What a week! Kim has applied for grant funding to keep the spay station coming next year and I sure hope it is approved. We desperately need to keep it here each month. Keep your fingers crossed!

Ya'll have a terrific week,

Entry for July 20, 2008, Freckles is HOME!

Freckles is home, safe and sound! Thanks to the call from a kind man named Curt in Brush Creek, we were able to find her about an hour ago. She is a smart dog and stayed near the creek where she had cool water and plenty of shade. If it hadn't been for the tracking of a neighbors Blue Tick Coon Hound, she may still be lost. The friendly dog led us to her and we found her stuck on a ledge above the creek. She didn't know we were there until I climbed down to get her. She is weak, hungry, filthy and exhausted but otherwise seems fine.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to all the people who helped with the search in whatever capacity. Some posted flyers, sent emails, made phone calls, searched by ATV, golf cart, in car, truck or on foot. Many, many people were praying for her and for us and our prayers were all answered. To be able to find a very small, shy, deaf, sight-impaired dog in a large and rough area covered by brush, hills and trees, we had to have had help from above.

Our pet sitter called us Thursday morning to let us know that as of 3:30 pm Wednesday, Freckles was missing! We got the first flight back home Thursday but couldn't get back until after dark. We spent 14 hours searching yesterday and have been out most of the day today but as of this point, she is still missing. Her pet sitter had taken her to her house and they were in the yard where Freckles' tail hit an electric fence and scared her. She has not been seen since. We'll be heading out as it gets cooler to search some more and we feel she is trying to make it the 6-7 miles cross country home. She's a smart dog and unlikely to be traveling in the heat of day.

Thank you to the many people who have been out searching for her on ATVs, golf carts, etc. Please don't give up!

Please keep her and us in your prayers. If you see her, call 615-336-0835. I will keep this blog updated with any news.

7/11 - Helen called for help trapping 2 feral cats to be neutered.

7/11 - Stephanie called for spay station appointments for a male dog, a female cat and 3 kittens.

7/12 - Another Stephanie called about getting a voucher for her pet.

7/12 - Brittney called for spay station appointments for 3 female kittens that she found in a trash can!!! Can you believe than anybody could be that cruel? There are some really sick people in this world. Those poor babies were only 3 weeks old when found and thanks to Brittney and her family, are now 6 weeks old and will be big enough to be spayed when the spay station comes around again. I'm sure that Brittney is getting a lot of love and joy from the 3 precious lives that she saved.

Ya'll have a great week and please be kind to my friends.
